2026 Victorian homeowner guide
How much does vinyl cladding cost?
A clear guide to the factors that shape the cost of professionally supplied and installed vinyl cladding in Melbourne and regional Victoria.
The short answer
No two homes cost exactly the same to clad.
The final price depends on your exterior wall area, building design, existing surface, site access, cladding system and selected additions.
A site assessment is needed to measure the real scope and provide an accurate installed price.
Understanding the price
Why an instant square-metre price can be misleading
A house with 150 square metres of internal floor space does not necessarily have 150 square metres of exterior wall. Two homes with the same floor plan can have very different cladding costs.
A complete quote considers the whole installation
Exterior measurements are only the starting point. Openings, corners, height, access and the existing surface determine the materials, preparation and labour needed to produce a durable finish.
A low advertised rate may cover product only or a basic installation. It may exclude trims, insulation, delivery, access equipment, preparation, clean-up and GST.
Ask whether any square-metre rate is for product only, basic installation or a complete installed project.
What shapes your quote
Eight main vinyl cladding cost factors
Each factor is assessed before we recommend a product and prepare your written scope.
Exterior wall area
Quotes are based on the walls being covered—not your internal floor area. Openings, corners and finishing details affect the final scope.
Height and home design
Upper storeys, high gables, verandahs, balconies and complex rooflines can require additional access equipment and installation time.
Existing exterior
Timber weatherboards, brick, fibro, sheet cladding and new framing each require a different assessment and installation approach.
Repairs and preparation
Rot, moisture, loose materials or an uneven surface may need to be addressed before the new cladding system is installed.
Product and profile
Duratuff, Duratech, Cambridge, Cedarline, vertical and eaves cladding have different profiles, finishes and installation requirements.
Insulation and wall wrap
Foam backing, insulation and sisalation can improve wall performance while adding materials and installation steps.
Access requirements
Safe access solutions depend on building height, boundary clearance, ground conditions and the areas being clad.
Eaves, gables and trims
A complete exterior transformation may include eaves, vents, verandah ceilings, infills and detailed window or door surrounds.
Existing exteriors
How the surface beneath your cladding affects cost
Vinyl cladding can work across many home types, but the preparation and supporting system must suit the existing exterior.
| Existing exterior | What we assess | Possible cost considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Timber weatherboards | Rot, moisture, movement and alignment | Local repairs, levelling or replacement of unstable areas |
| Brick | Wall condition, openings and fixing approach | Battening system and detailed finishing |
| Fibro or sheet cladding | Material identification and condition | Specialist assessment where asbestos is suspected |
| Previously clad exterior | Condition and compatibility of the existing system | Removal, disposal or local preparation where required |
| New framing | Approved wall system, wrap and flashing | Coordination with the builder and construction schedule |
Important: Suspected asbestos-containing material cannot be confirmed by appearance alone. Testing, assessment and removal must be handled by appropriately qualified or licensed professionals where required.

What level of assessment might your home need?
Use this tool to understand which factors may add complexity. It is not a price calculator—your home must be measured and inspected before an accurate quote can be provided.
Indicative assessment
Straightforward project
Your project may have fewer complexity factors. We will confirm the actual scope after reviewing your property.
Avoid hidden extras
What should a complete cladding quote include?
Do not compare quotes only by the total at the bottom. Check whether each installer is pricing the same scope and standard of finish.
The VCP difference
Clear scope. Fixed price. No surprises.
We explain what is included before work begins. If a concealed issue could not reasonably have been identified in advance, we discuss the available options before additional work proceeds.
Long-term value
Vinyl cladding versus repainting
A paint job may have a lower upfront price when the existing exterior is sound. The more useful comparison is the expected cost and maintenance over the years you plan to own the home.
Repainting
- Usually has a lower immediate cost
- Surface preparation may still be extensive
- Requires future repainting cycles
- High walls may require repeat access costs
- Does not add an external insulation system
Vinyl cladding
- No routine repainting, staining or sealing
- Can protect a suitable existing exterior
- Insulation options can be added
- Low ongoing maintenance
- 50-year transferable limited product warranty
The right choice depends on the condition of your home, budget, maintenance priorities and how long you intend to own the property. No specific energy saving or increase in property value should be assumed without evidence relevant to your home.
